About Me

I love solving interesting problems with passionate people, piecing together napkin sketches into fully functional products, and continually learning about new skills and processes to add to my problem solving toolbox.

Currently, I am a mechanical engineer at Fermilab in the Accelerator Division Mechanical Support Department. I design and analyze mechanical systems to support novel physics research and turn theoretical ideas into hardware.

In my free time I love to fix and race worn-out cars, take on overly-ambitious hobby machining projects, and organize events for my local drone racing chapter.

Work Experience

Mechanical Engineer
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory

Jan 2019 – Present

  • Collaborated with electrical engineers to design mechanical structures for 5000V, 300kA pulsed power distribution to maximize fatigue performance in harsh environments.
  • Reverse-engineered legacy tungsten-rhenium wire-winding processes and worked with machinists to successfully remanufacture damaged particle accelerator components.
  • Independently developed and engineered structural supports and installation solutions for experimental systems with challenging material limitations.
  • Designed and analyzed low-conductivity water magnet cooling systems to ensure optimal system performance and reduce system cost.
  • Efficiently carried out electrostatic simulations to improve high-voltage performance of particle accelerator beamline devices, reducing peak electric field intensities by over 40%.
  • Worked with physicists to design and manufacture test equipment for accurate measurement of power loss due to garnet components in radio frequency cavities.
  • Managed and mentored interns as part of the Fermilab robotics internship program.
